The ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’, our teardrop island home, Sri Lanka has been voted ‘The Most Desirable Island in the World’ at the 23rd Annual Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.
Rising from 8th position last year, to top the charts this year, Sri Lanka has been recognised for its stunning and diverse beauty across the island, all year round.
From tea plantations, to safaris, cave temples to palm fringed beaches, Sri Lanka has something for everyone.
Special mention was given by the awards to the Central Highlands region for its offering of stunning tea plantations and the newly developed Pekoe Trail that traverses across 300km of highland forest and tea plantations.
For those wanting to explore the Pekoe Trail from the start, Dendrobium House is located near Kandy and just 2km from the start of Stage 1. The property offers naturalist guided tours along with a packed lunch and transportation for those who want to discover the shorter stage 1 and 2 sections. For those adventurous enough to continue on or end a longer hike, Dendrobium House is the ideal place to rest and refuel in luxury and comfort ahead of or following a long hike.
Our unique cave property The Cavern is also located within close proximity to Stage 11 of the Pekoe Trail, the section that trails from Horton Plains to Udaveriya. The Cavern is a luxury boutique hotel near Hatton and Nuwera Eliya, built into a natural cave. For those returning from a long hike, the property offers a naturally heated spa pool and sauna, ideal for muscle recovery. The cooler climate is also a welcome relief and the farm-to-plate three-course meals offer gourmet sustenance. For those preparing ahead of the walk, our surrounding 50-acre cloud forest offers a number of mini hikes and a naturalist to educate guests on the flora and fauna they may encounter on the Pekoe Trail.
